STORY LINE
In 1953 top pin-up girl RITA FLYNN is shot to death, and 55 years later, the suspects include her photographer, her manager, her best friend, and the President of her fan club…
[RITA FLYNN]
In her 20s in 1953, voluptuous yet innocent looking, Rita is a super-popular pin-up girl, a model with a lively smile and a considerable coterie of followers, who has made a decent life for herself in spite of a seedy, unhappy past. A cheesecake model who rarely shows her fans anything but cleavage and good cheer, Rita is making a lot of money — and hopes to expand her career to include photography. But with Rita’s success comes the jealous of other, less talented members of her social circle, and despite her fair business dealings, her friendly manner and her genuine talent as a photographer, she’s shot to death, a murder that goes unsolved for 55 years…GUEST STAR (1) PROTOTYPE: Think Bettie Page, Rose MacGowan, or Katy Perry
[ZIP FELLIG IN 1953]
27 years old in 1953, Zip is Rita’s handsome boyfriend and steady photographer, a man who regards himself as an artist — but in fact, he’s a bit of a hack, whose girlfriend is stunningly photogenic. Lucky enough to have no rivals for Rita, Zip sees his life changing unalterably when Rita tries to market herself as a photographer, and succeeds by using a male name. Zip has access to the safe containing Monty Moran’s gun — but is his anger with Rita for stealing his livelihood enough to add up to murder?…GUEST STAR (1)
[ZIP FELLIG IN 2008]
In his 70s, Zip is still going strong but trying too hard to look young. The owner of “Glamour World Photography,” Zip makes a nice living peddling over-priced prints of Rita Flynn negatives, selling them on the retro collectibles market. Stunned to learn that the cops are looking into Rita’s murder again after 53 years, Zip gets to squirm when he neglects to mention the fact that he had access to Monty Moran’s safe — a safe that held the murder weapon..sptv050769 .GUEST STAR (11)
[BETTY SUE BAKER IN 1953]
24 years old, sassy and smart, Betty Sue is Rita’s best friend as well as her wardrobe and makeup stylist. Unlike Rita, Betty Sue hasn’t really found her niche in life; she doesn’t have a boyfriend, doesn’t have much of a career, and is saddled with an alcoholic dad who spills all her income in the Philadelphia taverns. Having turned to stripping to support her dad’s taste for whiskey, she’s deeply embarrassed when Rita finds her onstage en deshabille — and even more embarrassed when her new beau buys her dinner just to get Rita’s autograph. Drunkenly jealous of her friend, Betty Sue goes over the edge and kills Rita…GUEST STAR (2)
[BETTY SUE BAKER IN 2008]
In her 70s, Betty Sue is now a volunteer at St. Mary’s Church, a woman who has given her adult life to helping others. Seemingly a nice church lady who couldn’t possible have been a vulgar stripper, Betty Sue is careful to misdirect the detectives, pointing them in the direction of Reg Dwight. But in fact, Betty Sue is the guilty murderess, a woman who has spent a chaste and charitable life in atonement for a long-ago crime, and who goes to prison quietly when she’s called…GUEST STAR (24)
[MONTY MORAN IN 1953]
In his 30s, an up-and-coming skin magazine publisher, Monty is also Rita’s manager, a man who controls both ends of the business: production and distribution. A likeable guy with a big vocabulary, from whom bullshit pours in an unending stream, Monty is expert at selling: his new magazine, his star model, ice cubes to Eskimos. But for some reason, when Rita is killed, it’s with a gun that’s in Monty’s possession…GUEST STAR (2)
[MONTY MORAN IN 2008]
In his 80s and still going strong, Monty has published many magazines over the years, and he’s made a considerable fortune along the way. Happy to revisit his memories of Rita, Monty points the police in the direction of fan club President Beanie Monroe, and clearly thinks the kid was a mid-century stalker. But when he learns that Rita was killed with a gun in his possession, Monty loses his ability to BS with the best of them, because he’s too shocked to lie…GUEST STAR (15)
